Menifee police investigating "suspicious" shooting death

Police are investigating a shooting death that happened in Menifee on Wednesday. 

They were called to the 25000 block of Antelope Road at around 11 p.m. after receiving a call for service in the area, according to the Menifee Police Department. 

"Officers were advised they were assisting Cal-Fire with an unresponsive male subject," police said. "Upon arrival, officers discovered the individual lying on the floor with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his chest."

The man, since identified as 42-year-old Menifee resident Emmanuel Villalobos, was declared dead at the scene. 

"Due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, Detectives from the Menifee Police Department were called to the scene and have taken control of the investigation," police said. 

They believe that the death is an isolated incident and that all involved parties were cooperative with the investigation.
